Upheaval Press

In December of 2023, I released the first issue of BLASPHEMY. A black-and-white zine of nostalgia, featuring photos of San Francisco style writing in the late 1990’s. Inspired by Greg Lamarche’s exhibition "Subscription to Mischief", it is the project I dreamed of making as a teenager. There was little expectation with the first issue. Deep down, I just wanted to finish it so I could check it off my mental list and get back to my other responsibilities. Little did I realize there was an audience who felt similarly about photos from this era and that inaugural issue quickly bloomed into a series of sold-out releases.

I began to daydream about the future of BLASPHEMY, realizing it would eventually come to an end. There are only so many photos of San Francisco in the 1990’s. But it’s been such an honor and a thrill to make these zines that I want to keep the momentum going. I fantasize about new projects, documenting other areas like the Oakland tracks or freight trains in the 1990’s. I want to help friends produce and promote their zine projects. I'd like to compile all the BLASPHEMY issues into a book someday.  So I created Upheaval Press to publish these future projects and give it all a home.

Thank you for the support and interest in BLASPHEMY. It’s been such a thrill to watch this project develop. I look forward to the future of Upheaval Press.
